My parents fibre went downhill lately
« on: January 28, 2018, 04:44:03 PM »

My parents has complaints about Plusnet very slow too slow on fibre. In 2014 they have FTTC 80/20 service with PN and always got 71Meg down and 19Meg up until 2016 the fibre went down to 45Meg down and 15Meg up. They decided to downgraded to 40/10 on FTTC last year. Got connected and was 38Meg down and 9Meg up. Until today the fibre went down again to 35Meg down and 9Meg up. They asked me it far too slow and want to upgraded back to 80/20 but I told them on PN Hub the maximum speed from the street cabinet is only 44Meg down and 4Meg up. The cabinet is approx 600metres away. So, it pointless for them to have 80/20 on Fibre? I told them I never like Plusnet Hub One router. I think they better off with standalone Openreach modem with separator wireless router. They asked me why I always getting higher speed on my FTTC as I told them because I was connected to much closer cabinet which I am lucky indeed.

They think PN is very poor on fibre and should expected better on VDSL.

Latest stats from Plusnet Hub One:

DSL uptime: 1 days, 22:12:17
Data rate: 9999 / 38170
Maximum data rate: 4338 / 44174
Noise margin: 8.6 / 5.8
Line attenuation: 19.5 / 15.3
Signal attenuation: 19.4 / 15.0

Hi Adslmax,
600 meters from a cabinet for FTTC is nothing I am that far and get a good 40//9 from PN. The difference being I am using a Netgear D7000. My thoughts for you parents is to drop the free stuff and upgrade to Dlink/Netgear etal. That way they are not being throttled back by the ISP. Especially as even PN think I can do 80//20 from this location.
As you can see from my line stats attached
All the best.

Netgear D7000 v1 is Broadcom, D7000 v2 is Lantiq.

Okay! So get a list of Broadcom Modem/routers together, see what Mum dad can afford then swaparouney around and see if that lifts the speeds.
I am on a Huawei cab as well and all is well so far, so that bc stuff might be old fanboy chatter!  ???
Best of luck, how long have they had the PN Hub one? If it's 2014 and they haven't done any firmware updates! You may want to check that over as well.

Cool story bro.

The maximum is obviously nonsense. They are locked at 10 up so clearly 4.4 isn't the maximum.

Solution: they try and raise a fault if they are now below handback speed. If they make no progress they change ISP to one that will deal with the issue.

By the way, you do know that FTTC is copper not fibre optics don't you? I'm sure you do.
