Superb s/w quality and compat printer for iOS devices wanted
« on: January 13, 2018, 07:53:49 PM »

Does anyone know of a really really solid colour printer that works 100% with Apple iOS devices with Airprint (or whatever), no funny extra software required? Software quality is top requirement then hardware quality then that's all, don't care about price.

How would I find one?

Any other good Apple forums about?

Our Canon MG5750 does flawlessly. Daughter used it last night from her iPad to print out her homework last night.
Airprint from MS Word.

You have the option for single sided or duplex.

@deathstar - if you lose power, does it remember the wlan password and so on or do you have to configure it again by hand ? One nightmare about the current one we have.

Another question - is there any wired ethernet i/f on it?

Hi Weaver,

No problems with power loss and WiFi passwords. I am often disconnecting the power without powering down. It just complains when you turn it back on that it was not powered down correctly.

There is no Lan connection, just USB.
Bonjour is set to on as default, so no apple issues
Once the initial setup has happened via the front panel and you have it associated your WiFi you can then remotely configure it.

I've the low end model, as I needed it quickly for work. But I assume the higher end ones may have a wired port.

As a side note, when I got my Mac earlier this year, it just seen it and worked.

Hi Weaver, you may have to think about whether you want to go Laser or Inkjet.
The over all cost of feeding Inkjet cartridges into any printer can be quite costly.
Laser carts last indefinately and can give you much lower operating costs.

Inkjets + good for photo printing (!)
Laser not so good but it would be passable.

I have just purchased a Samsung C430W from Staples for £100 but the price varies quite a lot...

Good point. Software reliability with Apple iOS is the primary criterion after recent experiences. We are ultra-low page count users, so per-page costs arenit an issue. The costs of ink cartridges are utterly ridiculous as you rightly say. The ink costs the same as the printer. It is just a kind of cross-subsidy making users pay for the printer by instalments basically, whether they want to or not. It works our very well for someone like me. High print quality is the next thing.

About 18 months ago I purchased an HP ENVY 7640 series inkjet printer (it’s a multi-function device) and as my page counts are quite low also I opted into HP’s Instant Ink Scheme. I pay £1.99 per month for 50 sheets (which rollover) and the printer decides when I need new cartridges which are sent through the post.

The printer works great with IOS too (I bought it from Apple).
