I've made a PDF Guide on how to get easy serial access - no soldering - to the bthh5a. Flashing OpenWRT (aka Lede) firmware is greatly simplified. These excellent routers are available at very low cost and in very large numbers. Open Source support is excellent and performance has improved recently with SMP enabled by default in Trunk. I hope more folk will give it a go. Good Luck!

Thank you for making that guide available. I've downloaded a copy for later reading . . .

Awesome. Simple. Worked perfectly first time. Had it loading u-boot from my laptop within 10 minutes. Great job. Very much appreciated.

PS: Can you add it the OpenWRT table of hardware, please. That is the reference point for flashing the bthh5a. Thanks again.

How does this BT modem compare to the Zyxel VMG8324?  Does it support MDWS and have the fancy filtering and decent chipset?  Thanks

DslStats/MDWS only works with Broadcom chipsets.
The BT HH5b is Broadcom.
The BT HH5a is not.

You are most welcome. I added it to the OpenWRT TOH entry for the bthh5a.
