My HG612 Stats Review
« on: January 08, 2018, 11:38:39 AM »

Hi

I've recently changed my setup after a lot of messing about and decided to go for an HG612.  Its now unlocked and running live on my PlusNet VDSL2 connection with my own router handling the PPPoE.

I've set up the statistic monitoring and ran it over a 24 hour window.  The utility is fantastic, however I find even though I know (having googled) which sections mean what, I find it difficult to know if my results are within a scale of acceptability or if they need some attention.

My stats are on https://www.mydslwebstats.co.uk/ uploaded as stats for Tayta_G.

I wondered if anyone clever on here might be able to offer any brief advice on the content?

Much appreciated!

What are your estimates from the BTw broadband checker
Could you please post a screenshot, removing your telephone number/any other sensitive details.

Syncing at the full 40/10 for your package.
Line is capable of 50/20 going by the attainables.
G.INP is active on the downstream.
Very low errors. a few ES on the upstream which is nothing to worry about.
Line has low amounts of FEC/retransmits which is good.

There's a bit of an odd kick at the end of your Hlog.
I'm sure more knowledgeable members will comment on that.

From the Hlog plot, I can say that there is something abnormal about the metallic pathway.

I am hesitant at suggesting that it is the result of a bridging tap, as the shape is quite wrong. However, if I look critically at the plot, I can see very small undulations at frequencies lower than the minimum located at (about) sub-carrier number 3640.

For now, I think it would be helpful if we could have a description of how the circuit arrives at the premises -- an aerial or an underground feed, how the internal service feed reaches the NTP (network termination point) -- any joints/junction boxes, the type of NTP -- is it an NTE5 or a LJU and details of all wiring the end user's side of the NTP.

It arrives to my house underground. Terminates into an NTE5 downstairs behind the TV. No extensions or spurs anywhere else in the house.

Quite straightforward and uncomplicated. However . . .

How close are the television, modem and router? What type of television display, plasma, TFT or LED?

BTw Broadband Checker results
lol @ the last test date for bridge taps etc.... 1970!!

Your line is at the lower end of the estimates.
Considering you only have 40Mb package this is no problem for you.
If you were to consider upgrading to the "upto" 80Mb package then you'll only get about 50Mb.
Connecting directly to the test socket usually rules out any internal wiring issues.

The modem is mounted to the wall about 6" to the right of the NTE socket. There's a good two foot between it and the TV (LED).
The router is sat in the front windowsill. That's about three feet away from the modem give or take.

Thanks for this. I can't say I've experienced any issues as such, I just wanted to know more about the stats my modem was collating and if it was acceptable or optimal etc.
If I'm going to struggle to get much above 50 if I upgrade that's good to know so thank you.

If there's anything I could/should test to expand on those hlog concerns then I'd be happy to plug it into the test socket for a few days.

Hello

I've left this running this week to see if there was any element of 'settle down' since swapping out of the modem.

Are there any more recommendations at this point based on the current graphs or shall I leave you all alone now until I look to upgrade  ;)

I appreciate all of your input.

I have taken another look at your circuit's statistics via MDWS and apart from the curious anomaly shown within the Hlog plot, all seems to be good.

As for the Hlog plot, I am waiting for WWWombat to have the time available to review it and then, if possible, to comment.  :-\
