Super thin network cable ...
« on: December 22, 2017, 09:15:58 PM »

Hadn't seen these before, it's a network cable 0.3mm thick for window/door frames -

Might be useful for some people.  :)

On the pedantic side, it’s straight,  I thought cat 5 pairs were meant to be twisted?  Other worry for me would be, it looks kinda fragile.  And by definition, it’s going to be laid around doors, under carpets, precisely the places that a mechanically robust solution is needed.

Then again, I am prepared to believe that a few inches untwisted makes no odds.  And performance-wise it must surely beat WiFi or home plugs.

Bottm line though, if a person  wants decent data around the house, and understands why WiFi and homeplugs cannot ever be relied upon, wouldn’t they just drill a hole in the door frames & skirting boards for a proper Cat 5 cable?   ???

I can see it being used as a temporary solution.

The problem comes when it is regarded as proper solution.

Well this is obviously for people who for whatever reason can't or won't do that.

I have some flat network patch cables a couple of meters long, can't be thicker than 1.5mm and have never been aware of any issues.

It actually states CAT 6 Flat cable Laneed ELECOM on the cable.

Fair point. :)

That one looks to me like it probably still contains twisted pairs, but with each pair laid side by side?

The truly flat one appears to be totally untwisted.  I don’t pretend to know whether a few inches of untwisted would break the specifications or have a real-world impact on (say) gigabit ethernet performance.

I've also got some, for some reason they - and most other cables I've bought - end up coming from Kenable on eBay(competitive price, good quality, fast dispatch/delivery).
