Is my Billion 8800nl dead or my line - I have no sync?
« on: October 10, 2017, 06:18:33 PM »

Hi,

Last night my line disconnected, it never does this so I was a bit suspicious thinking it may have been a Retrain by the cabinet.
It never resynced for ages but came back after 20 mins with a horrible sync rate and the attenuation was through the roof.

Keep in mind I usually have a 80/20 sync you can see my stats on MyDSLWebStats under GaZaai.

Now it wont sync at all just keeps flashing then saying Establishing link/ no signal but my dial tone is perfect, no noises or anything.
Which as far as I know means that my internet should be working perfectly?

So do I call Plusnet or buy another modem as this one maybe fried?

Thanks.

I would report a fault to PlusNet, they should be able to do some tests and may ask you to try another modem/router but just because the phone line working Ok there could still a fault with your line or at the FTTC cabinet.

Ok I’ll try and borrow a friends modem to try out and see if that makes a difference if not I’ll phone Plusnet and say I’ve already tried a another modem.

All you really need to do is to temporarily have a loan of another device -- to attempt to synchronise with the cabinet DSLAM -- and then note the attenuation. If it is significantly greater than normal, that would be a good indicator of a problem with the physical circuit.

Managed to try out another modem, none of them are able to sync. Plusnet have arranged for a BT to sort it out within the next two days. They must detected something was wrong.

Assuming that you are currently using a mobile telephone to connect, then don't bother to respond. Just update this thread when the problem is fixed, please.

Yes was using my mobile to post. Happy to say that the engineer was able to fix the problem, and has also done a DLM Reset so will take a while for me to get my 80mb sync back as I need to wait for G.INP and 4db SNR. At least this gives me the chance to maybe stay on low retx to achieve 97% ip profile instead of 91% which I was on before.

Thanks for the help guys :fingers:

Thank you for the update with the good news. Other than being fixed, do you know what actually caused the fault?

Unfortunately no, I was at work while he was there. It was outside of my house somewhere as he wouldn't have been able to get in. He phoned me just to confirm that I had an issue and that it  was at my address. He then said possibly a faulty "port" on the pole then we ended the call. Never heard back after that, I could text him or give him a call but that would just be annoying for him I would think.

. . . I could text him or give him a call but that would just be annoying for him I would think.

Agreed. It was just the usual "feline" curiosity on my part. The fault has been fixed; the end result is good.  :)
