Replacement for ISP supplied modem
« on: September 03, 2017, 08:03:26 AM »

I am looking for a replacement for the modem supplied by my ISP we are on F.T.TC.

The supplied modem uses Profile 17a and LinkEncap G993.2_Annex_K_PTM

I cant find any info on the annex K or modems that support it.

Thanks for reading

Every VDSL2 modem supports PTM.

The reference to "Annex K" is because PTM is described in Annex K of the ITU-T ADSL2 G.992.3 document. Annex K of the ITU-T VDSL2 G.993.2 document is actually just a placeholder saying it is "for further study".

The would depend on what country you're in, and what "Annex A" refers to. Usually it's referring to ADSL Annex A for POTS, and ADSL Annex B for ISDN, although the European bandplans for VDSL2 are in G.993.2 Annex B and the North American bandplans for VDSL2 are in G.993.2 Annex A.

Thanks I am in Greece and it looks like it will be Annex B, we just changed over to VDSL2 after years on ADSL with a Billion 7800 and I am trying to get my head round it.
so if I search for a replacement I need to specify:-

VDSL2 Annex B
Profile 17a and supporting G.993.2

What modem has your ISP supplied, as depending what it is you may be able to keep that and just use a better WiFi router. :)

The supplied modem is a speedport entry 2i it is locked down with their own firmware which they can change remotely if they desire, I have my username and password and enough info to be able to configure a new modem of I can find a suitable replacement. Wireless is not an issue as I have an asus ac68 for that.

The modem was OK when I first had it but they updated the firmware and my connection has been unstable since but they will not accept that there is a problem and there is no possibility of obtaining the previous version.
