11 Hours on the phone if BT are paying £5 p/h thats £55 of my line rental wasted the CEO should read this post.

1 Call get through to a English Call Center  and explain my problems and Kitz's suggestion he said it would have been one of the first things he would have checked.

A bit of advise when calling BT keep calling and calling untill you get a english call center it might save you 10 hours on the phone!!!

Excellent - he obviously performed an xdsl check

>> He has raised a fault to the extange, so 48 hours from now I should be SORTED

Hopefully..  although BTw can be slow so keep an eye on it.

You can send the red roses to.....

lol seriously though..  the site and the forums wouldnt be what they are without everyones contribution and I'd be lost without the help of "the regs".

Its a shame really.. Ive  raised the bRAS profile thing and the Indian call center in the past with the guy who is about to become the new CEO and currently IC of BT broadband.
Whilst things arent as bad as they used to be...   the Indian support still seem to have gaps in their knowledge about this area :(

From an engineers point of view a sticky b-ras isn't something I come across that often but when I do the fact there is a fault reported should cause the system to restart the 10 day initialisation procedure that occurs when your broad band is first connected and in sync: Occasionaly the profile gets stuck regardless of this which is what I belive your problem is; hence kitz spot on advice as to how to approach your ISP.

Here's the rub, the typical dsl help desk seems to be staffed with people who are given a very rudementry breifing on typical broadband issues and are required to run to a set script: There is a logic behind this in that you get at least a certain standard of service. The b-ras issue being more unusual isn't well known by a front level call centre.

sounds like you got through to someone who understands and can see the throttle back. An openreach engineer would have to call an Openreach helpdesk which then will call a bt wholesale desk on a 3 way call if he suspected a b-ras issue which needs to be manualy tweeked. I'm not sure but I think doing this is strictly speaking outside openreaches remit but we do it anyway.

Officialy the manual intervention should occur within 48 hours but
usualy takes much less than that

Cant wait i keep checking my speed just incase, does a enginner have to go to the extange or can it be done remotely?
I think i heard something about sisco?
Plus my Attenuation  is now 15.5 & 14.5 This was 34.0 & 14.5 hopefully this means something.

Its done remotely, dosn't need an exchange visit, although I wish we could do this from the exchange. As this is something done between your ISP and bt Wholesale.

I'd say that if your attenuation stays at those figures you'll seeing an even bigger speed increase than anticipated once the bRAS problem is resolved.

In the meantime it might be worth tweaking your MTU/Rwin values if you haven't already done so.

That's about the only good thing about Vista. It does that automatically, I understand. ;)

With that attenuation I'd say, off the top of my head, that the download speed is about right. If they are on Windows Xp or Me then it would be worth tweaking the MTU/RWin to reduce the errors. Honestly it isn't difficult. If I can do it successfully (I doubled my download from 3meg to 6 meg) then anyone can. :)

Astral
I deleted that last post, as i have done really well with my connection and didnt want to abuse the time people had spent with mine.

I have been looking into even more and i am going to disconect the ring wire and more than likely going to purchace 2 X 2wire bus hubs as they seem to be quite good! plus i am going to give what you said ago, as he is a xp user.

Are the 2WIRE Bus Hubs any good?
