Basically it's a cab that serves half of a large (650+) newbuild estate.
The BDUK tender for the cabinet was done around 2 years ago, at which time, the cab served around 100 homes, so the BDUK paid for a H128 cabinet, as that at the time, would have been sufficient.
The cabinet today serves around 300 homes as they're still building. As a result, when the cab went live, the inital 64 ports went in under 24 hours. 2 susequent liine cards also were filled within 24 hours.
I did inform the BDUK team and Openreacch when I saw they installed the smaller cab back in February but it was too late to change it apparently.
The BDUK team have been in contact with OR since the cab went live and due to the demand Openreach have now planned a HD upgrade in the interim whilst they plan the addition of a second cabinet. Of course all could have been avoided if they'd changed for a H288 when they were made aware.
The reason it's been so popular is due to ADSL speeds being sub 2meg, again something Openreach were made aware of.
