Look whats back - Nokia 3310
« on: August 10, 2017, 12:16:15 AM »

Wow.  Look what is back for 2017 - the Nokia 3310

Remember the days when your phone would last a week without charging and was virtually indestructible?   Nostalgia or what!
The new version even has a camera - allbeit only 240x320 pixels but for under £40 what can you expect. :D

I still got my nokia 6420, would last for weeks on battery regardless of on call time.  Great phones.

They need to market this relaunch properly, and if they do there is a market I feel, not the same as was in their hayday but enough to be a household name again.  Plenty of people who have a need for a phone but not smartphone functions.

I'd heard this was coming but cynically I expected it to just be an Android in a fancy frock.   Seems I was wrong, it is some kind of descendant of Nokia's own OS, albeit with some possibly worrying interventions from Microsoft, if I understand right.

It would certainly overcome some of the things I dislike about modern smartphones.  A proper tactile keypad for example, that doesn't vanish with the screensaver, or disappear behind another window.  And a battery that'll see me through a few weeks.  A nice easy 'answer button' rather than annoying swipe gestures that often don't work.   :)

Then again, there's a new iPhone due out soon too, which will remind me of all the things I do like about modern smartphones. :D

My Nokia 1100 is a little over twelve and a half years old, is still using the original battery and only needs charging about once per month.  :D

I like older technology, it is so dependable. Why should I update my connection to the Internet from a G.992.3 to a G.993.2 broadband circuit?  ;)

One thing to watch out for - it won't work on Three.

Why not?  I'd heard some operators won't be selling it, but isn't just a matter of buying it elsewhere, and getting a Three sim card?

Three only operates on 3g and up - that's why its called Three; they do not have a 2G network
This is a 2G only phone
It will not work on the Three network
