How to use the Forum Search
« on: May 01, 2008, 12:32:56 AM »

Have you ever tried using the Search button and got lots of information you don't want ?
Would it be nice to find only the information that you do want ?

Now I've heard of a feature called "Boolean" and to be honest even at the moment I still don't understand it properly, except it is code that is added to the search to make it work better.

Well I just used the search tool to look for Safe Mode and what I got was two full pages of search items most of which were nothing to do with what I wanted, because it came back with every page that had the word "Safe or Mode" in them, which also means those words within other words also, such as "model" or "safety" and quite a few other combinations.

Now we know it could take take  long time to go through all of them, so I would probably get fed-up with not finding what I wanted quickly and give up.

However:
I found that by typing these extra characters into the search it only came back with results that actually contained the words Safe Mode in the same sentence.

This is what I typed, including the quotes at the start and ending:-

"safe+mode"

For more information on using Boolean for search, please look here.

Thanks for that OF. I've taken the liberty of moving it to this section.
