Tandy cable
« on: July 09, 2017, 08:48:09 AM »

Hi thinking of hard wiring router to master filter plate , as the Tandy cable I'm using sticks out a fair bit and the socket is in a place that could easy get knocked , first is the Tandy cable solid core ? secondly is it likely to improve sync ? cheers

Patch cables are usually stranded to make them flexible. I have a Tandy cable and it's flexible so I assume it's stranded

I found my Tandy cable improved sync as it's copper and twisted pair rather than the flat modem cable I had before but I think you're unlikely to improve sync anymore as you're already using Tandy cable.

I bought a 2m Tandy cable and the flat cable from my Billion 7800 performed better. There was about 2 meg difference in sync when swapping the cables.

Was that just a single swap, or have the two cables been alternated for extended periods?
Depending on the particular location and circumstances, I'd accept that a flat cable could be as good as a twisted pair type, but over a reasonable period, not consistently 2Mb/s better.
Unless of course the Tandy cable is faulty.

A couple of swaps I didn't want to upset DLM. Still got it so might try some extended testing.
