Perhaps that is something you can defer doing until a later date . . . or until you find there does appear to be problem.

What does the checker say your line rate should be?

Are you graphing SNRM with dsl stats.   Is there anything in there which looks a bit REIN like?

Number and address versions give different results, but I'm pretty sure number version used to give higher upper figure. The drops seemed to start in morning work hours and stop ~7.30 p.m, since when all has been quiet.
Selected graphs are attached where something notable occurred, variable as I was playing around for suitable scaling.

I had thought "router failure", and neighbour has work doing, but nothing happens when the pro is in. Son though I'll have to ask, as may be using deceased father's old equipment.

Image is a bit blurry (or my eyes are!) but since you are syncing at Downstream rate = 3069 Kbps, then you are below estimates and hopefully your ISP should be able to help?

The SNRM graphs don't particularly paint a nice picture and could be indicative of some sort of REIN.   I would be sending those on to my ISP if I were you.

You and b*cat seem to have already covered everything I can think of and Im not sure if there is anything else you can do.     :'(

The last set of stats, from 15 February, suggest the line is still banded at 3Mb. I would not bother watching stats and waiting for the banding to remove itself, just ask the ISP to remove the banding. Those stats looked bad, but I don't really trust a lot of the stats while banded.

@ kitz One problem is that the incidence of the bad patches is sporadic rather than chronic. I don't think I helped myself by swapping routers in case the Billion was failing helped given the Tech 582N gives less info.

@ejs Yes. it is around the top of a banding. B*cat did actually advise me to wait a week once the re-wire had taken place, then contacting ISP to remove it. The upstream Interleaving depth has gone from 8 to 4, but down is still 416.

Question: which is more resilient vs REIN- ADSL or VDSL?

I wouldn't jump to the conclusion that it's REIN. But generally I'd say VDSL would be more resilient.

I have now asked for the banding to be removed, but, pieces of earth law, this morning with Ren snug in bed, there's a disconnection and SNRM leaps. Does this system log extract say anything worthwhile? All I see is a lot of daemons.

A line with only 46dB loss should be a lot better than 3meg download.  For reference we're 55dB and sync at a bit over 4meg when nothing's broken.   However if your SNR has jumped up, than sounds like banding's been removed, maybe replaced by a high noise margin target.  I'm basing that on the fact that when our line was banded its showed as reduced speed without a higher SNR.

Can you over-ride SNR on your router?  The other symptom we found when banded was that over-riding made no difference to sync speed.

@aesmith and others  I can override the SNRM setting, but as my connection is banded, possibly in ignorance, I don't see what such tweaking will do. Indeed might it make matters worse? I am waiting for the ISP's response to request to have banding removed. Today.up to 1 p.m. DSLStats has 3 entries of DSL connection being restored.

@B*cat Man confirmed old master has been modified. I tried taking photos this morning, but they're pants. I'll try again. I saw a couple of gel crimps after the top half was removed.

Question for all: Even though banding has made speed static, bit loading now is only covering tones to ~180, but yesterday 300+. Why?

If your line is banded, and it behaves the same as mine did, then tweaking the SNR will change SNR only and not the speed.  For example when mine was banded at up to 3068K it connected at 3068K/6dB.  Change the router setting to 3dB and it connected at 3068L/3dB.   All I'm suggesting is that if your SNR is high it might mean that the banding's been removed but replaced with a high SNR target.   Three disconnects during the day doesn't sound good, did they all reconnect at exactly the same speed?

Is it now running ADSL2 rather than ADSL2+?

I am confuse about 3068K and 3068L- a typo perhaps?
Yesterday and today's reconnections
Code: [Select]
21/02/2018 01:14 DSL connection restored. SNRMup = 5.9 dB, SNRMdown = 10.7 dB
21/02/2018 14:29 DSL connection restored. SNRMup = 6.3 dB, SNRMdown = 6.1 dB
21/02/2018 14:37 DSL connection restored. SNRMup = 5.9 dB, SNRMdown = 7.3 dB
21/02/2018 15:26 DSL connection restored. SNRMup = 6.3 dB, SNRMdown = 9.1 dB
21/02/2018 15:34 DSL connection restored. SNRMup = 6.0 dB, SNRMdown = 6.2 dB
22/02/2018 04:29 DSL connection restored. SNRMup = 6.1 dB, SNRMdown = 10.7 dB
22/02/2018 05:56 DSL connection restored. SNRMup = 5.8 dB, SNRMdown = 10.8 dB
22/02/2018 12:39 DSL connection restored. SNRMup = 5.9 dB, SNRMdown = 8.7 dB
and banded around same spot as your figs.

Telnet still showing ADSL2+, router not set to auto.
