SKY ADSL & HG612
« on: May 04, 2017, 01:15:14 AM »

Hi Guys,

I have been trying for the last few days to get my HG612 working on my SKY ADSL connection.

I’ve been through this forum and sky user forums, however none of the instructions work for me.

The SR102 works fine when connected, however I cannot seem to get an internet connection with the HG612. I ultimate intend to use the HG612 in bridge mode with my Netgear Nighthawk R7800.

Since I cannot seem to get a WAN connection, I want focus on getting an internet connection before I bridge to my DD WRT R7800.

I have extracted my Sky username and password with wireshark and tried every combination of ATM & WAN settings. Nothing has worked so far.

I have flashed the HG612 with: bcm96368MVWG_fs_kernel_HG612V100R001C01B030SP08_webgui

I have attached a pdf with my modem status and basic config pages with the adsl cable plugged in directly.

Really appreciate any help you can provide.

Welcome to the forum. :)

Modulation type.
You could tick ADSL2+ only

Wan Connection mode: = Bridge.

Bridge Type = PPpoE_Bridged

I also used DCHP = Transparent Transmission
I also do not use Port Bindings on LAN 1 and 2 for my set up.

Have you tried using PPPoA rather than EoA under the "DSL Link type" setting?

EoA is needed to bridge the PPP session for ADSL to a separate router. As he is planning on using a Netgear Nighthawk, it can be assumed that he wishes to forward the PPP session responsibilities to it seeing as it is the more powerful device.

WAN connection mode is set to Route - Should be Bridge
Wan802.1q should be unticked
NAT should be unticked

Probably need to change the LAN address of the modem as 192.168.1.1 may be the address of the SR102?

I think the OP is trying to get the HG612 working as a router handling the PPPoA/PPPoE connection before he changes it to use bridge mode as in "I want focus on getting an internet connection before I bridge to my DD WRT R7800."

This may be confusing the issue in terms of the replies on this thread.

Looking at the modem pdfs the sync speeds are fine but it looks like that the ATM connection is set up wrong, the connection status traffic type is shown as PTM which is the default for the modem on VDSL2 connections. The ATM connection atm1.102 looks to be a VLAN connection which is not correct.

I have a spare HG612 but it's configured for VDSL2 at the moment, I will have a look later to check how the ATM mode should be configured.

Thanks all for your help.

Indeed what I am looking to do is get the modem/router functionality working, so at least I know it works before I attempt to bridge to the R7800.

I know my SR102 connects through PPPOA, IPV6, however to connect successfully to SKY, would I not need to enter my SKY username and password somewhere within the modem?

Not if its configured as a modem (actually a bridge). The SR102 will find it and set up the PPP connection, as long as you connect an ethernet cable between one of the LAN ports on the SR102 and LAN1 on the HG612. The SR102 will supply the credentials.

@playz28 - I've had a look at my HG612 and I think you need to disable WAN 802.1q and enable PPPoE on the WAN connection screen, then submit. You should then get the correct atm1 connection and a username and password field. Not sure about IPV6, I've never had an ISP that supports it. Hope this helps.

Hi all,

Thank you all, great news, I know have internet access. I’ve attached the settings that worked for me.

Basic settings:-

DSL network type: ADSL2+ only

ATM: VPI/VCI: 0/38; DSL Latency: Path0 Tick; DSL Link type: PPPoA; Encapsulation mode: VCMUX; Service type: UBR without PCR

PTM: DSL Latency: Path0 Tick; PTM Priority: Normal Priority

WAN Connection: Layer2 interface: atm1/0_0_38; WAN Connection: Enable; Service list: INTERNET;
Port binding: LAN1; NAT: Enable; User na me: sky username; Password: sky password; DHCP spoofing: untick; Authentication mode: Auto; dialing method: Auto

LAN: DHCP Server: Enable tick; Primary DNS Server address: 208.67.222.222; Secondary DNS Server address: 208.67.220.220; Everything else default.

Now i need to figure out the bridge method to my R7800!

Well done. :)
Make sure that the CWMP under 'Advanced' is un-ticked !

Why is your mode reporting G.DMT instead of ADSL2+ ? are you on a old 20CN exchange ?.

Remember the info reported the the user interface is not accurate, try installing DSLstats by Roseway  http://dslstats.me.uk/downloads.html you will get some great info about your connection.

Hi Guys,

Thanks again for helping me to get online.

I have been trying to operate the HG612 in bridge mode on my SKY ADSL connection so the R7800 handles the DHCP & NAT duties.

I currently have online access through the HS612 connected in Route Mode, having entered my SKY username and password in the WAN settings.. DHCP is enabled on the HG612 and the R7800 obtains an IP address from the HG612. The HG612 is on 192.168.1.1 IP address range and the R7800 is on 192.168.0.1 IP address range. This obviously creates the double NAT issues.

I have followed biohead’s instructions in http://forum.kitz.co.uk/index.php?topic=12833.0, however it has not worked. I have input my SKY username and password within the R7800 in the 'Internet Setup' page attached, however it does not connect to the HG612.

I know my ADSL connection uses PPPoA, therefore the HG612 needs to translate the PPPoE details from the R7800 to PPPoA in order to authenticate and talk to the ISP.

Has anyone got what i am trying to do working with a Netgear Nighthawk range of routers? Reading online shows the setup has been achieved with the ASUS range of routers.

As always any help is much appreciated.

The HG612 will not do what you want.

You can only use a PPPoE client on the router if the HG612 is running in EoA mode (PPPoE). The Vigor 120/130 can do PPPoE to PPPoA bridging, so would work with sky with a separate router, but those are quite expensive.
