Not sure where to put this but putting it here as this seems to be the latest version.

A suggestion.

A configurable option to take snapshots on re-sync if at all possible. If you are using MWDS its possible to go back through the day's output and work out what happened. In my case I suspect DLM lowering my target to 5db as MWDS shows straight after the re-sync 5db but a snapshot at that time may have proved one way or the other what happened.

Just an idea. :)

Have you had no answer from the expert people on Think Broadband forums they must be very busy over there at the moment.

It would be simple enough to provide an option to take a snapshot of the SNRM on the first successful sample after a resync. There's no way DSLstats can detect the instant that the connection is restored, it can only do it by waiting until a sample collection receives proper data again after a break.

Eric a question.... You said that 5.9.2 now had a timeout for uploading failures to MDWS, well the MDWS server went down this morning and I saw no error messages in the DSLStats event log. Should there be a message if upload fails? In fact the MDWS server is still down and no messages.

I'll have to look into that, Stuart. At least DSLstats doesn't hang any more when it can't reach MDWS, and that's progress. But it certainly needs to give some feedback when it times out.

One of the changes I made since v5.9 was the way that the test button works. Previously the test button wouldn't do anything unless the option "Send email alerts" was enabled. After a user pointed out that this was a bit confusing, I changed it so that the test button now works to test the email setup, whether that option is enabled or not. But you still need to enable that option if you want to receive actual email alerts, and I suspect that you haven't done this.

For the next version I'll make it clearer how it works.

Hi.

Yes alerts are enabled. 3 resyncs since yesterday but no message. Happy to supply screen shot if you wish..

Looks like I am not receiving any email alerts either.
Code: [Select]
27 Apr 2017 10:38:47 Alert: Downstream SNRM fell to 3.10
27 Apr 2017 10:38:47 Alert: Downstream SNRM rose again to 3.10
27 Apr 2017 10:40:46 Alert: Downstream SNRM fell to 3.10
27 Apr 2017 10:41:46 Alert: Downstream SNRM rose again to 3.10
27 Apr 2017 10:42:27 Email alert sent: "Alert: Test alert"
Nothing for the (forced) SNRM alerts, but the test email received.

OK, thanks, it does look as though a bug crept in. The alert system is working, and the email setup is working, but the link between them seems to be missing. I'll sort it out as soon as I can.

I can confirm that the change I made to the way the test button works introduced this new bug. I've fixed it, but unless anyone is desperate I propose to deal with a couple of other things before I upload a new version.

That is perfectly reasonable.  :)

Eric! :)

What I will say does not demean the excellent work you do.

With all the floating point, and DSLstats has stopped working problems I have, I lose a lot of what could be useful. Pity there's not  someway to prevent loss and make data available at restart.

A pipe dream,maybe!  :D

I'd prefer to work out why you get these problems, because they're not normal. If you want to save data, then snapshots will do quite a good graphical job, but regularly saving the data in such a way that it can be reloaded is too complicated for me to undertake now. I'm unfortunately not a spring chicken. :)

Eric! Not such an old boiler as me, I think! :) This morning I increased graph time length to 1 hour with samples every 60 seconds.
Would adjusting either be overkill? In any case, unless i notice and act there are and will be gaps in my data. I can pacel the snapshots I have and post them here. Other than SNRm, what other data would be wanted?

Thanks for your great patience.

Since about 7:30 there have been five or so floating point errors, and about three  stopped working warnings.  I am considering running from the test socket, but that will mean a long 10 metre trailing modem or Ethernet cable across the hall and -up the stairs. A final thought; could the obvious nasties my system is suffering be mucking up my DSLStats experience, one feeding on the other?
