Lightning Storm
« on: April 27, 2008, 08:07:55 PM »

Just had one about an hour ago in the Vale of York, a member on another forum posted this link

http://www.isleofwightweather.co.uk/live_storm_data.htm

Scroll down the page to see a radar picture. Seems to be heading into Lincolnshire.

I do like a good thunderstorm, for those of you who don't at least you'll know which direction to take to avoid.

It's funny (if you're easily amuse) I was speaking to my mother, who lives on the IOW, at about 8pm when this was posted. She didn't mention any thunderstorms but now, having visited the site,  I realise it is the detector & not the storm that was situated there.

On Sunday 5.25pm I was out side just doing some gardening, It was getting darker and spiting rain. (In South-Derbyshire)
There was an almighty flash in the clouds overhead and instantaneous bang also with the air crackling for a few seconds afterwards  :'(
That was close. ???
The storm lasted for about an hour.

Ps  Just looked outside and its just started to rain .

It past over Birmingham about 30 minutes ago with a huge downfall of rain but only lasted 15 minutes.
Cleaned the air a little and saved me from having to water the plants tonight.

I've just heard a couple of rumbles in the last few minutes... it certainly feels like there's a bit of tension in the air compared to how lovely it was earlier

Some very serious lightening and thunder just south of Garstang whilst we were in the Kenlis Arms having Sunday dinner at 1730. It then bounced down the rain for about 20 minutes but has now eased off, so, unfortunately, it was dry enough to walk to daughter's car to be taken home.
Reminded me of the saying "It never rains but . . . it always stops at the wrong time" Damn!  :(

Well it's been really nice all day here, not a sign of rain or thunder.
(Unless you call the Ghetto Blaster that's blasted away all day, thunder)  :shoot:

Just a shade more than that in Liverpool. Look at the roads this morning:

Poor Scousers.
Bet we don't have a disaster fund set up for them,
like the one we didn't have for the Eastern side of England last year,
like the one we didn't have for Boscastle in 2004.

Goodness me, that was one hell of a downpour.

Wall to wall sunshine again in the blessed east :)
But I'm sure it'll end in tears, probably as I'm walking home from work withour a coat :(
