New Cabinet Question
« on: March 09, 2017, 09:56:36 PM »

First post, total noob into this sort of thing, but i've found that this site & samknows have been totally invaluable for my thirst for knowledge intothe realms of Broadband / Fibre / Cabinets / Modems / Routers..

So onto my question.. does it matter what build cabinet you are connected to? Huawei or ECI?

Trying to find a place on the forum to post up my dial-up / adsl / vdsl (i think) / fibre journey..

Thanks for your replies. Massive learning curve here. I'm Cabinet P62 on this link. So it's a Huawei, was just wondering if there was much difference.

https://www.telecom-tariffs.co.uk/codelook.htm?xid=196901&cabinets=10487

Was due to go live with FTTC on Tuesday, didn't happen, contacted Zen who spoke to Openreach, said there were problems in the Cabinet (i think i'm the first, or one of thefirst to get Fibre), which the 'multi-skilled engineer' fixed today, now a technician is going to connect me tomorrow afternoon (though i'm not holding out much hope..).

What sort of issues could the Multi-skilled person have encountered? Sorry if i'm being a dunce.

Question - Why are you so sure you are going to be the first person to go live on this new FTTC cabinet ?

Because i was checking the openreach website everyday for the last few years (i kid you not) and i've followed it from:

In Scope, Design, Field Survey, Build, Connect, Activate and then when it went to 'Superfast Accepting Orders on the 21.02.2017 i was straight on to Zen who placed my order and gave me a connection date of the 07.03.2017. Now knocked back to the 10.03.2017.

So i may not be THE first, but i can't be far off it  :fingers:

I take it you know were the FTTC cabinet is located and you have put your ear against it to gain a sense of activity (Live and ready to Go)   ;)

If it wasn't for work getting in the way on Tuesday and tomorrow, i would've put my fishing stool next to the cabinet and waited all day just to make sure something happens  ;D

Hopefully this time tomorrow night i'll be able to post up some better stats than those above!

If you have been waiting 2 years for FTTC then a day is like a blink of an eye, come on tell us how far the cabinet is from your premises 100 200 300 meters with a nice 79999 Kbps DS and 20000 US  :-\

I reckon it's about 250-300 yards away. Not sure what the other measurements are but if they improve on my current 1.7mb download and 0.3mb upload I'll be over the moon.

Quote
Your line will typically support up to 35.0Mbps download (Min. 22.4Mbps and Max. 47.3Mbps), 6.9Mbps upload

But I won't believe a thing until it happens.

As a community we've had quite the journey to get to this point.

You can run the www.dslchecker.bt.com type in the phone number or full address it should come up with something very close to a line length of 250-300 meters and being a new cabinet without crosstalkers it should be 70+ Mbps as long as there are no issues with external or internal wiring

I would be surprised if the synchronisation speed was anything less than 60 - 70 Mbps.  :)
