As I quoted some time ago from the email I recieved it implies it has been resolved so maybe it's just a matter of time....lets hope so...

"The ECI RETX fix has been delivered and extensively tested. It is being included in a full update to the network and this full release is under test. As you will appreciate there is an extensive formal test and release process to go through before such major new functionality is deployed in our live network. A network pilot, including CP’s is currently being planned with the CP’s for Summer 17 with the earliest decision being Autumn 17.  There is likely then to be a controlled ramp up of deployment of the ECI RETX functionality into the network.

So it is planned and is in progression but it maybe several months before it is available at your address"

It was from someone within Openreach. I asked for permission to share  which was granted.

I shared it here in June of this year.  :fingers:

So I was provided this update from Openreach today  and given permission to share with regards to ECI G.INP.  sounds like its been fixed

Am I correct in saying that for G.INP to work it needs an updated chipset?

I'm still on version 0xb206.

I don't think the hardware is going to be replaced.

Those two bytes usually labelled as the "chipset version" are merely "vendor specific information" according to the standards, so they might change when some part of the cabinet firmware gets updated, but not necessarily.

firmware update not hardware change

the chipset version seems to be actually the firmware version, the name is misleading.

Why am I not surprised, begs to wonder if ECI DSLAM's will ever get this haha.

I suspect that's it for this year, at least for widespread rollout.

Wonder what happened.

I expect ECI will get no more business from BT in future, g.inp is an established dsl technology that has been around for almost a decade and they cannot even implement it in their firmware properly.

Hi

I expect ECI will get no more business from BT in future, g.inp is an established dsl technology that has been around for almost a decade and they cannot even implement it in their firmware properly.

It's odd it was working and seemed to get through testing the first time and was deployed, and it was working great for me.  The basics are there, but obviously there seems to be some issue or compatibility problem again.

BT are to blame though, they should never deploy equipment lacking functionality they know they will enable or want to enable during that equipment lifespan.  As you say G.INP is nothing new, there should be no reason why it wasn't on and working from the very first VDSL connection.  The same situation applies to vectoring, which is never likely to see wide deployment now, and if you are on an ECI cabinet, forget it.

Regards

Phil

Seemed to work fine for most of us with BCM chipsets.

What we don't know what effect it is having on say the unhacked ECI modems because we have no way of monitoring.  The existing DLM bodge repair was due to ECI modems and HH5A on the Huawei cabs.    There are likely to still be a lot of users out there with ECI modems.   It looked like BT could have been trying to update the f/w on the HH5A's.  Didnt we see something just a few weeks back that implied they may be?

BlackSheep had G.INP applied to the upstream of his HH5A. He said it made his line unstable and he had to perform a DLM reset.

I thought the ECI DSLAM's were only capable of G.INP on the downstream though. Is that correct? That should make the recent HH5A firmware update irrelevant unless it also targeted downstream G.INP compatibility with ECI DSLAM's.

Does anyone have any further information on what has delayed it this time?  Is there a problem or are they just testing for a bit longer to be sure it is working correctly?
