AMD Ryzen Price leaks (8C/16T/20MB/4GHZ/95W UNDER $500!!)
« on: February 11, 2017, 07:57:40 PM »

http://hexus.net/tech/news/cpu/102322-uk-us-prices-amd-r7-ryzen-processors-spotted/

$316-$419 depending on which R7 you buy

tests of a 3.1Ghz Manufacturing sample of an R7 chip have shown that it is just as powerful as Intels $1200 8C/16T 6900K in all tests (each at the same clock speed) and uses the same amount of energy (AMD uses slightly less than Intel actually, about 3%) - If AMD's top chip truly is going to be under $500 then its going to be a good buy and should hopefully drive Intels prices down, that said one can buy the much cheaper but slightly under-clocked version and simply overclock it!! therefore one can get the performance of Intels $1200 chip at a quarter of the price!

AMD have named the chips similar to Intels Core- i3/i5/i7 chips, AMD R3/R5/R7, I think this is a good idea

AMD R3 chips will be 4C/4T
AMD R5 chips will be 4C/8T and 6C/12T
AMD R7 chips wil be 8C/16T

and we are getting REAL CORES this time... unlike previous AMD 8 core chips in which a pair of cores share a single Floating Point Unit (FPU) meaning they were very inefficient and more like very efficient Quad-Cores

Well if this is true and the pricing is correct it will be great news, and hopefully drive Intel prices down, Intel will need to innovate to stay ahead of the game, but I'm sure they will have something in reserve.

Oooh, shiny!

But I'm sticking to my "It's not just about the processor" line.  I need to see some top-quality motherboards with feature-rich, quick, reliable chipsets.

Seriously - these great CPUs are of no interest if the chipsets are crap.

Why do young people who make videos, such as the one to which Snadge has linked, above, have the need to gabble?  :-\

Whoever he was, he might have well been spouting Martian in a Russian accent. Totally impossible to follow (or understand).  :-X

Desperately needed Intel competition and great timing as I need to update gaming PC this year :)

Look forward to seeing some proper independent testing / benchmarking though, there is always so much hype its hard to tell until they get into the hands of the right people.

its because they cut out the spaces between sentences on the video to shorten length I think?, I hate that too.. its like a long, boring, monochromatic robot talking to you lol - why they dont just talk normally and not feel the need to shorten the video length by joining up the sentences back-to-back...B-R-E-A-T-H..!!  HAHA

£320 for an 8 core 3.7Ghz unlocked CPU - sounds a great price to me - I paid £270 (was £300 with 10% paypal discount) for my 6 Core Intel 5820k CPU around 16 months ago, todays price is £383. For the 8 core 3Ghz 5960X you're looking at £1030

https://www.overclockers.co.uk/amd-ryzen-7-eight-core-1700-3.70ghz-socket-am4-processor-retail-cp-39x-am.html

4Ghz option is £490

https://www.scan.co.uk/products/amd-ryzen-7-1800x-s-am4-8-core-16-thread-36ghz-40ghz-turbo-16mb-cache-95w-cpu-retail

Be very interesting when the benchmarks start rolling in, and of course how well they overclock.

ok thanks bowden.

A lot I think is riding on if these can be overclock to comparable speeds that intel can reach 4.3ghz+.

So are the 1700, 1700X and 1800X basically different binnings of the same chip, in which case depending on yields you might get a 1700 which can OC to a 1800X (I have read they are all unlocked).

Or have a missed something?  They all seem to have the same number of cores, threads and cache size.

Brilliant, at less than half the price of their intel equivalents I am expecting price drops all round - Intel have had it too good too long and have got fat and lazy (a bit like me)

Not sure I have built a non Intel PC since I assembled a Cyrix one, erm, a while back

I noticed OcUK typed up some info about ram memory with the Ryzen.

Quote
Ryzen is compatible with all current DDR4 memory and officially supports upto 3600MHz.

However the sweet spot is 2400-2666MHz, this speed will work with all mainboards including cheaper options.

3000MHz and above will ONLY work at such frequencies in the flagship mainboards like Asus Crosshair for example and even then the maximum stable speed we achieve with a lot of messing around was 3200MHz, which really makes 3000MHz the maximum speed we advise.

Of course you could buy 3200 or even 3600 kit now, and just run it at a lower frequency with more aggressive CAS Timings and as BIOS updates come out then you might be able to achieve higher frequency.

As such we recommend 2400-3000MHz kits for use with Ryzen, faster kits will work just fine but you might have to run them below the rated speed and just set the memory timings more aggressive.

AMD Ryzen 7 1700 Overclocked To 4GHz On All 8 Cores – Provides 1800X+ Performance With Decent Motherboards & Cooling
http://wccftech.com/amd-ryzen-7-1700-overclocked-4ghz/

Quote
AMD’s most affordable Ryzen 7 8-core CPU has been overclocked to 4GHz on all 8 cores. With decent motheboards and cooling this $329 chip is said to be capable of outperforming the flagship $499 Ryzen 7 1800X and Intel’s $1050 i7 6900K.

OCUK staffer “Gibbo” reports successfully overclocking a retail Ryzen 7 1700 processor with an ASUS Crosshair VI Hero motherboard to 4.05GHz on all 8 cores. With this overclock the CPU would effectively be running 450MHz higher than the Ryzen 7 1800X flagship, which is very impressive considering the huge price delta between the two chips as well as the low 65W TDP of the 1700. “Gibbo” estimates, based on his results, that the 1800X should be able to hit 4.3GHz on all 8 cores.
