http://hexus.net/tech/news/cpu/102322-uk-us-prices-amd-r7-ryzen-processors-spotted/$316-$419 depending on which R7 you buy
tests of a 3.1Ghz Manufacturing sample of an R7 chip have shown that it is just as powerful as Intels $1200 8C/16T 6900K in all tests
(each at the same clock speed) and uses the same amount of energy
(AMD uses slightly less than Intel actually, about 3%) - If AMD's top chip truly is going to be under $500 then its going to be a good buy and should hopefully drive Intels prices down, that said one can buy the much cheaper but slightly under-clocked version and simply overclock it!! therefore one can get the performance of Intels $1200 chip at a quarter of the price!
AMD have named the chips similar to Intels Core- i3/i5/i7 chips, AMD R3/R5/R7, I think this is a good idea
AMD R3 chips will be 4C/4T
AMD R5 chips will be 4C/8T and 6C/12T
AMD R7 chips wil be 8C/16T
and we are getting REAL CORES this time... unlike previous AMD 8 core chips in which a pair of cores share a single Floating Point Unit (FPU) meaning they were very inefficient and more like very efficient Quad-Cores
