Fitlet - mini-PC, everybody jumping on the DIY router bandwagon
« on: February 11, 2017, 08:50:02 AM »

There seems to be an explosion of DIY fanless mini-PC hardware suitable for home routers.  One thats come up on the Bit-tech forums which I think is interesting is the Fitlet PC.

They do a quad Intel NIC version.

I gotta say, though, I started writing this post before I saw the prices and read they run a little hot.  They seem a bit pricey.

Interesting though, is it just me or is the pfSense "DIY router" thing becoming much more mainstream now with lots of barebones options.  Great to know I am bang on trend.

:P

It's probably just that you're noticing them more, and of course Google etc serving up relevant adds/links.

I still need to decide what to do with that mini pc I got of ebay, I brought it before what I am using it now for pfsense but then realised its locked down to win10 (no bios access).

That's a silly price IMHO. My Gigabyte BRIX with a quad core celeron cost me £100 +vat and I already had  an HDD and memory. Runs W7 through 10 and Linux. Currently runs my weather station and forecasting programs, very quiet and only 4x4x2 inches at around 10watts.
