Thoughts on Zen please
« on: January 14, 2017, 06:04:35 PM »

After being with Sky for 7 years and my current contract ending now I attempted to get a discount at renewal but have been told on 2 seperate occasions there are no offers for my service being the old pro unlimited fibre with a fixed IP address.

Have always thought about Zen, any members care to  comment or other suggestions welcome provided you can use your modem & router and comes with fixed IP. 80/20 preferred.

Many thanks

I have been with Zen for about 18 months and have had not a single issue on BTW ADSL2+. Their support are really good, with their network being extremely efficient. I am seeing pings lower than many on FTTC. They are on the expensive side, but they fully support any router you want to use, although their IPv6 support can be finicky.

As I say, incredibly reliable service, never had any issues, and great support.

PFSense should work fine. My only real issues is that my TP-Link router doesn't support using the same PPPoE session to pick up both IPv4 and v6.

I have had a Zen ADSL account for a long time, I am a fan as the customer service is pretty good and the connection has pretty much always been good.

I like the fact that if you phone their support you actually get an answer within a reasonable time-frame and the person at the other end actually knows something about computers / networks.

What about IdNET slightly cheaper than Zen?

I've no experience of them but was looking the other day.

Been with both of them in the past, albeit several years ago now.

Probably the best ISPs I have been with to date.

I rang sky myself for a deal, they said no twice, then on third attempt I said I am thinking of cancelling nowtv, and guy said he can get deal when his manager approves, now I am waiting for them to call me back.

The deal is £10 off if I commit 12 months extra.

Personally, back in the early days, I chose quality over cost...  Demon.

And they were excellent, until the owners cashed in and sold the company, in what proved a spiral of decline, 'Thus', Scottish Power, and eventually... bottom of the barrel... Now Vodafone.  :(

When it all got too much, following some hilarious (and depressing) 'support' episodes I decided to switch and again I chose quality, went for Zen.  After Demon's collapse, they were a breath of fresh air.

And so they remain, no regrets at all with Zen. :)
