WAP broken (ZyXel NWA3560-N)
« on: January 10, 2017, 05:57:22 AM »

My WAP has gone weird. I think one of the antennae has been damaged. It was wobbling about all over the place until Mrs Weaver opened it up and retightened a nut on the inside of the casing.

It's reporting zero signal strength (or sometimes really low numbers such as 6%) yet the TX rates are really high > 200 Mbps for 802.11n with a 40 MHz wide 5 GHz channel while the RX rates are eg 6 MBps or 24 Mbps from an iPad.

Any thoughts, or do I just have to bit the bullet and shell out for a replacement?

How's your soldering? Crack that baby open solder a wire on and use a cheapy stand alone aerial?

Or just use as an excuse for an upgrade to a nice Ubiquiti WAP (or the like)

Am probably going to use this as an excuse to get a Cisco Aironet 1850.

My soldering is not too bad at all, used to do a lot at work on occasion. However, I'd have to get out of bed first, lest I set the bed on fire and that would rightly incur Mrs Weaver’s displeasure.
