Note on Drop Pole
« on: November 19, 2016, 03:42:48 PM »

One of neighbours was getting some work done to-day by KN networks so had to talk to the engineer he showed me a note on the pole and never noticed this until to-day not sure what it means or what will happen.

It is the good news for which you have been waiting!  :)

In the defect section it states --

Renew BT + Tail
Faulty Section From
JF4 to DP

My translation of the above is --

Renew the terminal block (at the top of the pole) and its tail cable (which links the terminal block to the D-side cabling), as there is a faulty section somewhere between the pole-top distribution point and its associated joint box.

The bad news is that it has been there since February 9th, 2016.  :(  Who knows when the remedial work will occur.  :-\

I take it that will require some digging or will they push the new cable though a duct of some kind and I am quite surprised by that date on the note 9 months ago and still no fix, wonder how long it will take for work to begin on this site.

As you will no doubt remember, I took a remote look at your DP and was puzzled when I could not find its associated joint box. You then directed me to a little further along road, where the box could be seen.

Normally when the joint box is adjacent to the foot of the pole, there is no problem when changing the tail cable. In your case, I would expect there to be a single duct run to link the foot of the pole to the joint box . . . But there is still the possibility that the tail cable has been directly buried in the ground.  :-\

Hope it's has a duct because the joint box is on the other side of a B Road.

While the work was being carried out by the Engineer it gave me chance to see are neighbours crosstalk effecting my line he has had issues for many months so hopefully that has been fixed and i'll be getting less of those SNRM spikes which was annoying me.

Indeed, yes. That is why I mentioned "I would expect there to be a single duct run to link the foot of the pole to the joint box".  :)

A1024's (The label you mention) are there for us to report faulty or defective plant/furniture. They do get prioritised dependant on requirements, a 'Block & Tail' not being the highest of priorities I'm afraid.
However, it will get done at some point, usually when there's a lull in workstacks ....... which seems to be hardly ever these days !!

Thank you BS and can't find a pole number printed on it which seems odd, At least the fault has been flagged and is somewhere on their to do list  :)

Have received a phone call today about block and tail renewal and work is planned for this week, now I didn't like having to force this by using a email it was just encase the planned work had been forgotten about.

So perhaps you should be prepared for a disruption to the circuit, with the minimum of one drop and a later resynchronisation event noted.

If this takes place I will lose connection during the work and once the line comes back online will most likely lose some DS sync to other lines who were badly effected by this fault.

I am a good neighbour we know each other well and communicate often i'll be happy to lose 6Mbps if it helps others  :)

@NewtronStar,

congrats on getting confirmation on the fix

Do you know what a block is? Mine was a "20 pair block" but she also mentioned "blockage"...

The BT/Block is that Box at the top of the OR distribution Pole it's like a junction box with all the pairs fanning out to each household as a drop wire/cable, it could even be underground if that is how the copper pair is distributed to home

@NewtronStar,

there is a note on my pole too but it is ancient, do you think they meant replacing the DP?
