Sky fibre stats check
« on: November 18, 2016, 10:29:37 PM »

Evening all,

My mate just got sky fibre installed at home. The BT DSL checker states somewhere between 56-40.8 (clean) and 42.9-23.8 (impacted). I know those figures are a bit unrealistic mostly.

He is currently connected at 14.5mbps but from having a quick look at his stats, it never syncs with a higher snr of 3.1 on the down stream but 7.4 on the upstream. The line attenuation is sitting at 31.5 D/S and 19.2 U/S.

Any thoughts on these stats?

Just to clarify . . . You have observed --

Line attenuation:          31.5 dB DS & 19.2 dB US
SNRM:                         3.1 dB DS &   7.4 dB US
Synchronisation speed: 14.5 Mbps DS & ?? Mbps US

Hmm . . . I'm not too sure what to make of those statistics. Perhaps a Sky service user, such as Chrysalis or skyeci, might be better placed to comment?

Are you sure it's actually FTTC (VDSL2 G.993.2), because those speed and attenuation figures look about right for ADSL2+ (G.992.5).

I'm with ejs. Only ADSL2+ will connect with 3dB DS SNRM and 6dB US SNRM with a sync of 14.5mbps.
The attenuation also matches an ADSL2+ connection pretty perfectly. Infact with those stats I'll eat Paddy Ashdowns hat if that's an FTTC connection.

As per Burakkuucats lay out.

Line attenuation:          31.5 dB DS & 19.2 dB US
SNRM:                         3.1 dB DS &   7.4 dB US
Synchronisation speed: 14.5 Mbps DS & 1.1 Mbps US

Maybe it is an ADSL2 connection but he was told it was fttc. He signed up to Sky unlimited.

Just to add, When my parents were connected on ADSL2 not too far from him their speeds were roughly 3mbps DS and 1mbps US.

Both ejs and j0hn have clarified what was troubling me when I initially looked at those statistics . . .

Sky Broadband Unlimited is ADSL
Their FTTC is called  Superfast Sky Fibre Unlimited

I would be double checking he actually has fibre. Definitely doesn't sound like he does from the little info we have.

I think we can close the thread now as my mate just remembered he opted for the cheaper package rather than the fibre package. It certainly had me confused. Apologies for wasting all your time.
