Modem recommendation
« on: October 03, 2016, 12:06:22 AM »

Hiya,

I'm looking for recommendations, ideally for a vdsl modem only as I'm happy with my Asus AC66U atm. I'm looking for something that...

  • Has detailed line/error stats
  • Can access stats/error details etc. through another router (or possibly second physical interface) without requiring disconnect (my draytek vigor 120 in bridge mode had this problem)
  • Is suitable for a 1km line
  • Being easy to use would be a benefit, I'm getting too old for flashing custom firmwares etc. :D

Thanks

There's no single answer to this question of course, because it depends on the characteristics of the particular line. But I'll jump in with my suggestion, which is a Zyxel VMG8324-B10A or VMG8924-B10A in bridge mode. See http://www.kitz.co.uk/routers/zyxel_VMG8324-B10A_bridge.htm

I would establish cabinet type as well before purchase.
