I have very well informed info that most heavy torrenters use a server to do the torrenting, mostly based out of Amsterdam, on a 10gbps switch, and they just download what they need via FTP.

The days of people seeding torrents 24/7 on their own connections are over due to RIAA, MPAA, and the Police cracking down on it.

You have to run a proxy just to hide your IP from the swarm and most proxies are limited to 100mbps.

There is people using seedboxes yes, but the days of torrenting from home are defenitly not over, I personally know probably a dozen or so people that seed from home, including members of my family.

Torrents are commonly used in the Linux world to reduce the load on servers.
