UK ISP Sky Broadband Officially “Completes” the Roll-Out of IPv6

Quote
Last year Sky Broadband became the first of the major ISPs in the United Kingdom to begin a wide-scale roll-out of the Internet Protocol v6 (IPv6) addressing standard and today they’ve confirmed that their work is “almost completed“, with over 90% of their broadband customers being IPv6 enabled.

The title of Sky’s announcement actually uses the word “completes“, although the reason why some customers are still on IPv4-only connections is because a small proportion of legacy subscribers will still be connected using much older or unsupported third-party routers. Never the less Sky’s network should now be more or less entirely IPv6 capable.

From my limited time of using sky's ipv6, I have not seen the weird mtu issues that plagued me on plusnet's ipv6.

you may be suffering from the bug I had with regards to asuswrt not handling sky ipv6 very well, I did post a response to another guy on skyuser but had to remove it as the dev working on this for me requested I dont say anything until the work is done.  Regardless tho this firmware which will be fixed wont work on the asus ac 8x routers.

I suggest reporting this to asus explaining the firmware is not compatible with sky ipv6.

Tell them 2 specific things.

sky's dhcp requires the router to initiate the prefix delegation request and not request an ip instead of waiting for a RA.
next that on disconnection dhcp should "not" send a release otherwise the prefix will change on reconnection.

forget about sky adjusting their implementation, as far as they concerned it only needs to work with their own kit, they dont support any 3rd party kit.

would they not need to give me a new fixed IP6 address though as I am paying for a fixed IP4 address?

it be dual stack

it is ipv6 alongside ipv4.

So you keep the fixed ipv4.

the ipv6 is dynamic.  But if you can prevent the dhcp client on the router from sending release commands then the prefix wont change.

So rang sky pro support team about this and was told. The ipv6 was in trial. Not all exchanges are ipv6. An email would be sent when customers are being moved.. ummmm...
 ??? ??? ??? ???

the grunts at the support desk will be behind on this information. :)

I never got an email and I doubt I will ever get one as such an email will confuse most of their customers.

They not informed, especially as they about to be laid off.

Did you actually enable ipv6 in your firmware? and if yes check on a site like this.

In ipv6 on asuswrt set as follows

mode -native
dhcp-pd on
stateless
get dns servers from isp
any options related to dhcp on lan side enable.

test here http://test-ipv6.com/

yeah thats fine, the only issue is it seems sky's dns servers dont support ipv6 (or whatever dns server you got configured), but that is working enough now so you can start a tbb ping graph on the ipv6 ip.

Wow I just went to that link too.. it seems I'm ready to go as well. BT must have changed something as I checked ipv6 ages ago when Weaver posted about it on another thread and mine wasnt ready.

The results for me came back as 7/10

Your IPv4 address on the public Internet appears to be

Your IPv6 address on the public Internet appears to be

Your IPv6 service appears to be: Teredo

Your Internet Service Provider (ISP) appears to be BT-UK-AS BTnet UK Regional network, GB

Your IPv6 connection appears to be using Teredo, a type of IPv4/IPv6 gateway. Your particular teredo configuration is only used as a protocol of last resort. When visiting a site with both IPv4 and IPv6, IPv4 will be preferred.

Good news! Your current configuration will continue to work as web sites enable IPv6.

Your DNS server (possibly run by your ISP) appears to have IPv6 Internet access.

I'm not sure what Teredo is?

Also my DNS server is google.. so maybe its something google is running?

Teredo is a built in tunnelling service in windows provided by microsoft for ipv6 traffic, so isnt to do with BT.
