Dirt cheap ESET/NOD32 Smart Security licence
« on: September 04, 2016, 02:27:03 PM »

IMHO ESET still make the least resource hogging AV software out there and I started using their NOD32 AV back in the late 1990s and despite trying out other AV software, always end up returning to ESET.

Anyway I hope I'm not breaking any forum rules by posting this, but this is an absolute bargain considering ESET themselves charge £83.99 for a 3 year, 1 PC licence for ESET Smart Security. I took out a new licence from this ebay user last week and its a genuine licence, which i got verified by ESET UK support. Not sure how they can sell it for £13.99 but who cares if its genuine :) You download the software from ESET's website free of charge and register it with the licence key you have pruchased.

I thought I misread at first but its 1 pc not 3pcs? cheap but not mega cheap, regardless I think some will appreciate it. :)

I agree nod32 is the lightest a/v I have ever used.

Yes its for 1 pc, but for 3 years which works out less than a fiver a year. This is a bargain considering that Amazon sell a 1 year, 1 pc licence for 39.99 and ESET RRP for a 3 year, 1 pc licence is 83.99. This is for the full security suite, not the cheaper standalone AV.

After watching Fake Britain, and also warnings how Ebay reputations can be "created", I'd like to ask, how we know the ESET product is genuine or not has not been tampered with?

My licence was confirmed by ESET UK phone support as being totally legit. You can't get much more genuine than that :)
(I also state this in my opening post - second paragraph  ;) )

 :-[ I missed that!
Apart from its light weight, has ESET anything else superior in practice to other competitors including the free offerings of AVG, AVAST and Advira?

In addition to being very lightweight and amongst the best for malware detection, I've noticed ESET throws up very few false positives compared to the likes of Kaspersky, Avast, et al. IMHO Comodo seems to be the worst for nagging you left right & centre with false positives. With ESET you install it, configure it to your liking and you will never hear a peep from it again unless it detects a virus....which is the way AV software should work :)

Kaspersky has the lowest false positive detections out of all the available suites, and hardly uses any resources. I have been using Kaspersky for 2 years and unless something changes I will not be changing.

I have bought a few licences for ess off ebay,  one was a oem licence, eset said that it shouldn't be re sold  and wouldn't generate a new key so the programe shows activated , but it updates and upgrades normally  so is just a gui issue, though i suppose they could refuse to provide support if they wanted if i started having issues, but i could always enter free 30 day trial key

Eset have always charged over the top on their web site for their products, in particular here in the uk,  and offers on the eset usa  site aren't available to uk customers , unless they use a VPN

I note they also do Nod32 for £12.99 - link.

3 Years 1 PC or 2 years 2 PC.    Does seem a fairly decent price and genuine.

That link takes you to the 3 years, 1 PC licence as per my first post.

This link is for the 2 years, 2 PC version from the same vendor. Still a bargain at £13.99!!  :P

EDIT: Apologies, just re-read your post and realised your link points to the standalone AV version (commonly known as NOD32) so a different product. Should learn to pay more attention to posts!!

No worries.   Was just pointing out that they had other products and packages at decent prices :)

Just found another bargain on fleabay for ESET Smart Security. £14.99 for a genuine 1 pc 10 year licence. I bought a few for family members and they're the real deal - the seller emails you the licence username & password and these are then converted to the newer ESET licence keys on the official ESET website. I suspect these are dirt cheap as ESET are slowly phasing out their Smart Security product, however these keys also work on their basic NOD32 AV program and should work on their newer Internet Security version as well.
