right my ip profile is now set to 4000kbs, gonna get an eye on it from now, got a feeling its something to do with the phone noise

If your attenuation suddenly increases again and the line speed drops right down accordingly then you have an intermittent line fault.

Might be caused by damp or something on a connection which would also create noise on the phone.

If it happens again you'll notice your sync speed plummet accordingly. In this case you should report it faulty once more and pursuade them to send an engineer out. If you keep a copy of your current stats from the router you could keep them as future evidence if required to prove that there is something seriously affecting the line.

If you are still having the problems even after you have plugged into the TEST socket (not the master socket alone) then I am very suprised they are still refusing an engineer.  Kick up a stink and get one out there, it doesn't sound right having that much of a drop on your rate.
