Zyxel VMG3925/VMG3926 Discussion
« on: May 20, 2016, 12:00:12 PM »

Hi all,

First post, but (very) long time lurker of this very useful information resource :-)

I'm looking for a ZyXel VDSL2 router/modem.  Does anyone know if the ZyXel VMG3926-B10A is ok to use on a UK FTTC service?

I can't see any material difference in the spec to the VMG3925-B10B, which is listed on the UK ZyXel website.

Thanks in advance for any insight.

Welcome to the Kitz forum . . . as a contributor.

I've tried to see if there is any obvious differences but to no avail. I ended up downloading both User's Guides, the VMG3925-B10B and the VMG3926-B10A. Quickly skimming though both documents left me non the wiser.  :(

Hi.

Why not consider the vmg8924. Works on vdsl and has 5ghz wifi. Also provides line stats. I use the vmg 8324 but in modem mode. I have used the 8924 as well and worked the same.8324 will also work on vdsl but does not have 5ghz wifi.

You can usually pick either up on ebay from time to time for a fair price 2nd hand. Just make sure you disable tr069 if you get one that has been used on kcom network.

I got mine second hand and its been great.

Cheers

At a quick glance, the main difference appears to be that the 3925 has an extra 5Ghz antenna and they operate at a higher output power than the 3926

I guess both may be successors of the VMG8324/8924

Thanks for the welcome

I was actually looking for the VMG8924, when I came across some 3926 on eBay.  As you say, they look like they may be newer models. I also saw a VMG8924-B10B which seems to be in the same enclosure as the 3925/6

I might just take a punt on a 3926 and see how I get on - it can always go back on eBay  :)

Be good if you do get one and get a chance to try one of stats programs like hg612 stats to see if it will work or not like the 8324 and 8924 currently do.
Thanks

Hi

I found an internal picture of the VMG-3926 and it includes the extra common mode noise filter like the 8924/8324, plus is based on the BCM63168D chipset.

I have one on the way. Will report back once I've had some time to play with it.

Cheers. If you are able to try it in bridge mode even better.

Many thanks

OK, so the VMG3926 arrived a couple of days ago, and is up and running.  It's a really tidy box, which was one consideration (for the WAF  :) )

I've not tried much yet - first priority was to get it installed and connected.

It *is* running successfully with DSLStats using the VMG8324 option, but I've been unable to get it working with HG612_stats.  With the latter, the scripts fail and I'm seeing errors complaining about 2 instances of HG_Stats.exe running.  I think the script is hanging, and never exiting.  I've not investigated further though.

Cheers for letting us know. You ought to let Tony know and it could be added to the modem list on mydslwebstats for modem choice.  Good to see an alternative is available should my 8324 goes pop.. are you using it in bridge mode out of interest?

Hi thanks for the information.   Ive split this off to a specific discussion thread about the VMG3925/VMG3926 and linked from the main thread.

The obvious difference between the 2 to me when looking at the images is that the USB storage ports ie the casing is slightly different with the one touch button on the 3926
As mentioned the wifi specs seem to be different too.

VMG3925 B10B

Wireless
2.4 GHz two 2 dBi internal antennas
5 GHz three 2 dBi internal antennas

1 x USB 2.0 host interface (for file sharing/3G/4G backup)

VMG3926 B series

Wireless
2.4 GHz two 3 dBi internal antenna
5 GHz three 3 dBi Internal antenna

2 x USB.  File sharing / 3G/4G dongle access support*
One touch function button on the side

That sometimes happens when using both programs.   You need to ensure that DSLstats is running in compatibility mode for HG612 stats.
In DSLstats settings:-   Configuration -> Misc -> Miscellaneous -> Tick "HG612 -Modem-Stats co-operation".

The other possibility is if you have a fast PC then you may need to adjust for that in the HG612 modem GUI.

Just been looking for the 3925 online to buy and found a somewhat surprising pricing. One company is selling it on Ebay for £157 with free shipping but the same company is selling it on their own website for £112 including VAT and shipping. Some people do rip off customers on Ebay!
