Any advantage being first in cabinet?
« on: August 09, 2016, 09:23:07 AM »

Is there any advantage of being one of the first lines connected in the cabinet?  Could this reduce crosstalk as potentially you could only have half the disturbers?  ECI cab if it makes any difference.  Thanks

You will get to see what your line is fully capable of and you will see over time how much cross-talk impacts your connection.   As each new disturber is added to the cab, then your own connection speed will drop.  :/   Nothing much that you can do about it, other than be aware it will happen.

Yes about a 40% drop due to crosstalk so far.  So there is no advantage being connected I guess at the end of a collection of ports?  If BT come out and move ports do I run risk of getting a worse connection?  Thanks

no advantage in terms of less crosstalk. crosstalk is worse when 2 cables run in parallel. cables being close or surrounded by other cables in the cabinet is not a real concern.

I was the first in my cab, got full sync of 60 Mbps, after 3 years I'm down to 43 to 50 Mbps.

Pros

Your line will initially connect at amazing speed, probably way above your estimate.
You get to see the exact amount of crosstalk detoriation.

Cons

Prepare for disappointment as the crosstalk impact will likely be significant.

I was first in a 96 port cab on a long line. I ordered before probably anyone else knew it was live. speed only remained for a week or so. It had dropped by about 30% by the time the cab was full. Recently regained speed due to 3db SNR target.
