Which Monitoring Software?
« on: July 29, 2016, 01:33:32 PM »

Hi,  Bit of advice please.

You may have read about my travails on the Broadband Hardware section of this forum following the installation of a new SmartHub.

Have had to revert to the opriginal HG612/Hub4 set up due to line instability attributed to the SmartHub.

Cut a long story short, but am now getting significantly less speed (especially upload) since all the kerfuffle started. The BT gentlemen in India tell me that there is nothing wrong with my line which I think is nonsense as iw was perfectly stable beforehand.

I think I'll have to get some linestats myself. Its been a long time since I used either ModemStats or DSLStats, and the sofware etc has been uninstalled on my PC.

So should I reinstall ModemStats or DSL Stats? And what is the firmware version to be used on the HG612 to enable either of these software suites?

Thanks

Hi bbnovice,

You'll need to use the HG612 Modem Stats program: http://www.freewarefiles.com/HG612-Modem-Stats_program_84567.html

To unlock the HG612: http://www.kitz.co.uk/routers/hg612hacking.htm

Hope this helps!

You can use either.  I guess it is personal preference which you use. HG612 stats can be found here http://www.download26.com/modules/wfdownloads/singlefile.php?lid=2334 rather than the previous link or DSL stats from here http://www.s446074245.websitehome.co.uk/

@William HG612 Stats hasn't been on Freeware files for probably more than a year.

It can be downloaded from the following post.

http://forum.kitz.co.uk/index.php/topic,15080.msg293413.html#msg293413

If you have a PC that's on 24/7 you can use either, if you don't want a PC that's on 24/7 you can use a Raspberry Pi to run DSLStats which users very little electricity.

Oops, my mistake, I simply copied the link. As others have said, you can use either, but I'd personally use the program that's designed specifically for the modem.

Thanks for the responses guys.

Once upon a time, I used to be familiar with HG612Stats and as there seems to be no overwhelming reasons to use DSLStats I'll try that first.

I dare say I'll be back for some guidance on what my stats look like once I have harvested them!!!

The latest firmware for the HG612 is bcm96368MVWG_fs_kernel_HG612V100R001C01B030SP08_webgui-1407000358 but using all the links above can not find this file to download

it's no more made for that modem than DslStats is, it's only the name it was given when that was the only modem available. both programs work with multiple modems, both have their own pros and cons.

I've always used HG612_Modem_Stats but recently tried DslStats and I much prefer it. I particularly like the Error Seconds graphs, and how it gives ES/Hour. However I really like the main connection stats UI on HG612_Modem_Stats, and how it shows the previous minute (delta) all on 1 neat page. So I now run both together, and there's even an option for them both to cooperate with each other.
