Plusnet migration problems - any help?
« Reply #15 on: July 25, 2016, 03:57:16 PM »

I think it was more my knowledge than anything else.  Way back when I had a BT hub 1 on broadband I knew when my neighbour was home because no matter what channel I chose whatever they had knocked my signal out almost everyday, so I decided I needed a stronger signal than them and then I went for 5Ghz as it was a completely empty space until now.

I think I have a HG612, if I fit that this evening how would I get the stats?

You need to flash it if its not and hook up port 2 to a laptop or pc..you can run hg612 stats to get the info. Have a look at the back of the modem, hopefully its a 3b?

Very easy to flash the modem.

The Asus I was referring to is also the DSL-AC68U. It reports my attainable as 58mb, and every other modem reports my attainable as 50-52mb. that will be why the snrm is only 6.5dB with such a high attainable. The Asus also reported the correct fastpath/interleaving, but incorrect inp values, so that explains that anomaly.

You can continue to use the Asus as a router only, using any of the Ethernet ports as WAN port. This would be my recommendation, and exactly what I'm doing right now.

You asked about the Netgear D7800. I would also avoid this unit, especially with you being on a Huawei (Broadcom) cabinet. You should go for a modem with a Broadcom (BCM) chipset.
Have a look here: Combined VDSL2 Modem Routers

edit: just noticed the last post. If you do indeed have a HG612 then that is ideal, and contains the Broadcom chipset so loved by most.

So we can believe the SNRM in place of the attainable, and the interleaving depth in place of the INP value.

I guess that means that we don't have G.INP active.

Hi all

I have now completed the following:

Flashed HG612
Turned my DSL-AC68u into a router only (I've now lost a ethernet port though)

It's taken a couple of hours of faffing, but my line is now back to normal (my normal anyway :)).  Speed back-up to 73/74 over wifi and my IP Profile with BT is 77.35mb rather than 72.89mb as before.

I have attached a screen grab of my line stats from the HG612 before I made the changes to the Asus, which are not as high as the Asus calculated stats, I also have no idea about some of the errors, if any has time - are they anything to worry about?

My only thought is that I could do with the ethernet port back, I have 4 requirements so now I have lost one its a pain, it's also more messy with more plugs/cables.  So I may look again at an all in one option.  I'll see if I can see when I last updated the firmware on the router, I may try to revert and check again.

It is a shame that Plusnet didn't respond in the same way this forum did.

So a special thanks for all of those who replied and did so quickly.  Thank you very much, I may not always understand what is going on or be able to explain in the right language, but I do know when something changes and not getting an answer or challenge like on here was very frustrating.  thanks again.

There's actually quite a few errors in the web interface of the HG612. You would be better opening a telnet session and posting the results of xdslcmd info --stats

that would give much more detail and also tell us if g.inp is enabled. I would think it unlikely though as your line was recently reset.

edit: now that you have unlocked the HG612 you may wish to look into running 1 of the stats recording programs available. The big downside with this and your current setup is you lose yet another Ethernet port, taking the Asus down to 2 useable ports. I invested in a simple cheap gigabit Ethernet switch to overcome this.

You have G.INP active, and the SNRM looks more like it should. The Asus modem seems to report incorrect interleaving/INP with G.INP active, as it's correct on my line (ECI).

Good to hear everything's as it should be now with your I.p profile. I was really disappointed with my Asus modem and really wish I'd read up on it much more before purchasing. With you being connected to Huawei cabinet, a modem with a Broadcom chipset is preferred. The Asus modems actually have Broadcom chips handling the wireless, which was part of what caught me out when buying. The HG612 would be more than sufficient for your line, just bear that in mind if upgrading in the future.

For some reason, the forum wasn't highlighting this thread as unread, so I missed the crucial last couple of posts.

Those line profile values, and statistics all look absolutely fine. Even if there is only 90 mins worth, the errors look like they'll stay low. Good to see G.INP active on the line (the mention of "bearer 1" is the giveaway). All healthy.

The attainable of 90Mbps with an SNRM of 8.7dB is a good match.

Good too to see both the IP profile values and speed test results come back. Fingers crossed it stays that way.
