Netgear D7800 and DSLStats
« on: June 03, 2016, 02:17:32 PM »

Does anyone know how or if the D7800 will work with DSLStats?

I've already tried the same method as used on the D7000 to get into debug mode but it doesn't work at all, any ideas anyone?

As far as I know, it has a Lantiq DSL chipset, so DSLstats won't work with it unfortunately.

Ah yes it has. Don't suppose you know of any other ways to graph stats at all do you?

Oh well I've just connected this D7800 up and it's giving me a download connection rate some 2Mbps less and upload some 1Mbps less than my SBG3300-N.

I'm actually on an ECI cabinet too so thought the D7800 would give me the same speeds if not slightly better so wanted something to see what was going on with the line stats.

I love DSLStats too :(

I am on eci as well. Thought I would add that after trying countless modems and routers my vmg8324 has out performed all others and currently holding the best sync I have seen on my line since g.inp was disabled. Works with stats as well.

I only changed as I needed 5GHz wifi as the 2.4GHz is totally saturated where I live now.

Of all the modem/routers I've tried the ZyXEL SBG3300-N has performed better then all others tried but it doesn't have 5GHz wifi  :(

The D7800 will likely sync up at a faster speed once G.INP is re-introduced. A lot of us found this (a sync increase) to be the case when it was rolled out.

Well my download speed has gone up slightly but my upload has dropped to only 4.7Mbps and as I'm on an ECI cabinet who knows when G.INP will be reinstated although that won't help upload anyway.

The low FTTC A for my upload is 7.5Mbps although I was getting around 6.7 to 7.1Mbps on the SBG3300-N.

I've tried three Openreach Filters (Mk1, 2 & 3) the MK2 gives best results for me, the MK3 gives even lower upload speeds. I've also tried directly into the test socket using an Openreach supplied filter and also with an ADSL Nation filter and it's still giving similar results.

You could use the SBG3300-N as the modem if you still have it and use the D7800 as router in bridge mode that should give you the best of both worlds broadcom and 5GHz wirless

As for DSLstats don't know if that can be routed from the SBG3300-N while in bridge mode with  D7800

Unfortunately I just don't have the room to use both. My download speed is actually slightly better now on the D7800 than it was on the SBG3300-N but my upload has dropped from around 7Mbps to 4.7Mbps.
I've also noticed my ping suddenly shot up from around 20ms to 35ms at 4am today. Tried changing gateways but ping is stuck at 35ms now.

Then I would make some space your pings have increased and lower upstream sync rate and also lost DSLstats communication the latter would leave me stats blind which I hate

I know what you mean regarding being stats blind, I'm struggling to cope  :o

I may well just return the D7800 as I did the D7000 as my download has now dropped and my upload has gone back up slightly although both are still below the levels I had on the SBG3300-N. At least my ping has returned to around 20ms.

As someone else said I may look at the VMG8924-B10A as it has 5GHz wifi, does it use the same chipset as the SBG3300-N?

What getting an access point for your 5ghz requirements ..

I did this ages ago using a £30 TP Link Cable Router just as an 5 GHz Access Point.
(it was cheaper to buy one of those rather than a "proper" access point)

It works extremely well, and is a very cheap way to get 5 GHz Wifi without replacing any router/modems that are doing the job ...
