Is the Netgear D7800 Any Good?
« on: May 17, 2016, 12:14:00 PM »

Hi everyone

I'm looking at buying a new router with a integrated VDSL modem in it so I can get rid of the BTOR modem.

I was looking at the Netgear D7800. Do you recommend this one? Is it any good?

If the opinion is no it not very good, can you please advise which I should purchase please?

Many thanks in advance.

You would probably be better getting a model with a matching Broadcom chipset. Maybe one of the new Billion 8900 series.

The Netgear D7800 is an excellent 4 stream Mu-Mimo wifi router and easily beats the likes of Billion 8800 or Netgear D7000 for wifi coverage...I'm using the standalone router version of this  (Netgear R7800) and won't ever go back to a 2 or 3 stream router ever again. However the D7800 uses a Lantiq VDSL2 modem so those on a Huawei cab probably won't get the highest sync. You're better off going for the 4 stream TP Link VR2600 which is exactly the same as the D7800 except that it uses the latest Broadcom BCM63268 chipset for the VDSL modem - the wifi chipset is the same as the D7800 (Qualcomm Mu-Mimo).

Thanks everyone for your input. I'm willing to pay a few quid for a good one, are there any others that you know of with better spec or is that the best there is for my cab?

The Tplink VR2600 is currently the best vdsl2 modem/router out there for those on Huawei cabs. Of course it ain't cheap but like with most things in life you get what you pay for :)
