What's the HG612, ZyXel modem only equivalent? Perhaps the VMG 1312?

No, the VMG1312 series is a modem router. The only standalone Zyxel VDSL2 modem that i know off is the P-871M but this is a 'point to point modem' so not sure if it's suitable for standard FTTC connections. Otherwise the only real alternative to the HG612 is the Draytek 130.

The HG612 is a modem/router as well - it's just shipped by Openreach in bridge mode.

A ZyXel modem/router can act in the same way

Technically the HG612 might be a modem/router but how many people are going to use it on its own considering it has no wifi and a single useable Ethernet port? Perhaps only for testing when physically connected to a pc.

I used an HG612 for some time as a modem/router when I was on ADSL. I didn't need WiFi at the time, and I was using an 8-port switch anyway. The HG612 has got two usable ethernet ports, by the way.
