Connecting to PPPoA via EoA + PPPoE using HG612?
« on: May 13, 2016, 11:33:15 PM »

I have a HG612 router I obtained from a family member who was with BT a while ago.

I recently moved to a new flat, in a new building which BT only provide ADSL2 at the moment.

I would much rather use my own router over the HomeHub that BT provided so I figured I can use the HG612 in a "bridge" mode, and just plug that into my router and all should be fine and well.

But it seems I cannot figure out how to get the HG612 to bridge PPPoA over to the LAN1 port, but if I use EoA, I can see that it bridges the ATM interface directly to the LAN1 port.

So, I was wondering, if I keep the HG612 on EoA, which would be bridged to LAN1, and then setup PPPoE on my router (which would be connected to the LAN1 port of the HG612), would this do the trick?

This way the HG612 would kind of act like a media converter, converting the Ethernet frames into ATM frames.

Would this work?

Yes, I'm fairly certain that would work.

Perhaps you could try it and then report back with your findings, please?
