Attenuation increases?
« on: May 09, 2016, 11:43:51 AM »

My attenuation has increased by 0.5 is this normal for a line that usually has a rock solid value?  Ginp was recently removed, interleaving was applied but has since been removed.  Thanks

Mine has recently changed from 13.2 to 13.5 so I wouldn't worry too much.

Attenuation reported by your router can vary, because it is just an estimate performed based on signal power across the various tones.

It can be affected by various things, such as the number of tones in use.. or some people say their attenuation gets higher in summer (expansion of the line).   Also because its an average, then the more tones in use, then it can increase, because the higher frequencies are more attenuated. For example moving between adsl -> adsl2+ can add about 4dB.

So 0.5dB isn't anything to worry about.
You can see a few of my bands (U2 & D3) have also shifted by ~0.5dB over the past week.

Attenuation is higher when temperature is higher. I have in winter 22.5/15.1 and 23.5/15.6 in hot summer.

Its normal for the attenuation to increase during summer time due to thermal dynamics as the metallic pathways will expand with heat which causes your attenuation to increase and contracts during the winter as the metallic pathways get colder.

The changes in attenuation for me over the year will be 0.4
