HG612 Qos
« on: May 01, 2016, 09:24:54 PM »

So i want to use my HG612(unlocked) to limit my upload speed as to improve my gaming experience. My HG612 is being used as my modem going to my HH doing the routing.
Would anyone be able to advise me on what to setup here in order to have my gaming traffic prioritized:

Thanks.

Hi braddersg93

I think you need to QoS on your router as your hg612 is bridged.

Many thanks

I suspect all that UI on the modem is ineffective. Unless the HG612 is reset to be a router not a mere modem (do not reconfigure it), then many of these UI functions do nothing at all, so I am led to believe.

OP, as mentioned you're better off doing the traffic prioritizing in your router. Also if you remove the tick next to 'QOS>Enable' (first option) you will notice your upload speed increase by a meg or two....mine went from ~17.5mbps to ~18.5mbps ;D

In the default configuration of the HG612 device (a pure bridge), as supplied for use by Openreach, QoS is enabled but there are no rules defined. In other words the QoS function is essentially a NOP . . .

However numerous people have discovered, just like psychopomp1, that leaving QoS selected as enabled (as a NOP) will have a detrimental effect on the overall throughput.
