Applications for securely deleting data from USB flash drives?

(1/1)

soms:
Hi all,

This is primarily a question but I will also post some useful information as well....

My question is, does anyone know of a decent program for securely deleting data from a USB flash drive? In other words, a program which will overwrite the data many times to prevent its easy recovery?

I have a program called MediaWIPE, but that can only delete single files or directories, not an entire drive in one go.

I also use Zilla Data Nuker which I have found excellent for wiping hard disk drives (either by file/folder/free space or entire drive) and you can create a custom process, in my case I ran a 9-pass overwrite on a 40GB hard disk and it took a good few hours.

Btw ZDN works with hard drives either connected internally or via USB, firewire etc... Its just flash drives and I suppose also floppy disks I can't seem to erase properly - any device that appears in Windows as a removable media.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I have file recovery software so can see what programs work and those that do not  :)

I don't know of anything specific, but a quick google throws up these pages:

Cheers for the linkies...the "Eraser" program seems to do the job and leaves nothing to be [easily] recovered :)
