A donkey just walked right past my living room window
« on: April 26, 2016, 12:49:26 PM »

We have two donkeys, "Gilbert" and "George". They get into the garden whenever the gate is left ajar, min order to grab the bird food container. They shake the container until the seeds or peanuts come out and then they have a tasty snack. They always seem to want to find some trickery to keep their minds alive, they hunger for novelty.

Lots of people come to visit just to see them. Somehow everyone seems to love donkeys. It's a lot of work looking after them but they give people a lot of pleasure. They will outlive us, so we've made arrangements for them to be looked after long-term.

Unfortunately you're a bit far away for me to come see them, so you will have to post some photos of Gilbert and George for us :)

We're a bit far away as well but we do love donkeys. There are some locally we feed when we have our grandchildren with us (always carrots or apples never anything else). We also visit a sanctuary on the IOW when we are there on holiday. Are yours by chance named after Gilbert & George the artists?

Just like Clovelly in Devon.

it's a case of necessity, the roads in the village are very steep and narrow, there's no way a van can get down them.

Completely OT, but any mention of Clovelly raises the memory of one of my daughters, then 2 1/2 years old, gamely climbing those steps and refusing to be carried!

No, their friendship is merely platonic.

The hens have abandoned the henhouse after recent fox attacks, and have now moved into the donkey stable. They sleep in the tack room where they are safe because the donkeys will attack the fox.
