Why Do Most Users Have A Cat As Their Profile Picture?
« on: April 22, 2016, 08:46:47 PM »

Hi guys,

I was just curious, why do quite a lot of users have a cat as their profile picture? Do you all know each other and all love cats or do you just use cats to represent kitz?

Naw it wasnt ever a cat forum.
The main site has always been a depository for ADSL related stuff.
Some time around 2005/2006 I upgraded from shared hosting to a business package that had gave me a lot more flexibility about what I could do and I set up the forums.  For 2 reasons:  1) I was getting a heck of a lot of emails asking if I could help re linestats and other queiries relating to content on the main site.  2) A computer related forum that I used to visit and post a lot on was having a lot of server  related problems.  So it gave somewhere for the regs from CA to post.

I originally used phpbb, but swapped to SMF for security reasons, so some of the earliest posts are no longer available..   I think this is probably one of the earlier ones that still remains - link.

I honestly dont know how the cat AV thing started.   I've used the same AV for years which is one of my cats as a kitten.  Zac (the one in my av) died unexpectedly many years ago and I've still never bothered to change it.

That's interesting. That's sad about Zac, I have watched most if not all of your YouTube videos and you certainly love cats! ;D

This is true :D

@William... another true fact for you.   Something I did about 3 years ago.
The cat sleeping on the keyboard is Zoe when she was a kitten.

So there you have it... the internet in its early days was called a catenet - pronounced cat-en-net.

Aye...  he got a horrible and fatal disease called FIP.    He was really clever and is the one who loved to play fetch in the vids.
He loved bringing me things..   no joke, he would go in the garden then bring back different flowers and put them in a (nearly straight) row.
He once brought back what I joke was half a tree - in reality it was branch complete with leaves.   Ive still no idea how he got it through the cat flap, other than it left a trail of leaves through the kitchen, lounge and up the stairs into the PC room.   :D

It was Zac (and his behaviour) that make me fall in love with the Birman breed.   I was given Zoe as a present after Zac died.

To be honest, my allergy to cats is very minimal and some cats don't actually do anything to me. I wouldn't mind having a cat, especially with our dog who would chase and try and grab it! LOL!

I'm guessing by the av's that there are a lot of members who do have cats :)

And some who have dogs.

Shadow would rather chase foxes and rabbits than cats... Cats are, for the most part, far to cunning.

Not forgetting a flying frog and a piglet with a very curly tail . . .  ;)
