VDSL2 changes - 3dB - DLM?
« on: April 18, 2016, 03:38:37 PM »

Hi,
I've just read some of the threads referring to a 3DB profile change, in addition to the new 55/10 product.

My understanding is that the latter is a new OR product, which BT customers can switch to for a re-contract. For me the benefit is none since my max speed is ~ 38 Mbps, and right now I'm on a 35 Mbps profile (after some HH5a & replacement modem testing.. and not being careful enough)

However the 3dB profile is interesting. Is this going to form part of the DLM setup -- ie one may get moved to 3dB if error stats look good (yes I've read the wonderful pages on DLM here!)? Or is this part of the same product offering?

Finally not being entirely up to date am I right in thinking that upstream G.INP no longer features?

I'm on a Huwaii cab, currently with HG612 modem (and latest unlocked fw)

The 3db thing is just a trial at the moment,  limited to 100,000 lines.

The 3dB profile (could also be 4 or 5dB) is currently an Openreach trial - and is a separate development from the new 55/10 speed tier. And yes, it would be part of the DLM toolkit

Upstream G.INP is not used by default. However, if you are on a Huawei cabinet and your modem supports it - DLM can turn it on if it thinks it's needed.

Are these 100,000 lines limited to Huwaii cabinets or are ECI included? MDWS have ECI users that *may* be on a reduced target but hard to tell.
