Do we know what the upstream will be?
10 Mbps as per usual! But, what I'm wanting to know is do we need to enter a new contract or will all lines by put onto the new service tomorrow?
The product is 55/10, which should mean migration to a new product and a DLM reset.
It is highly unlikely that existing accounts will be put on the service tomorrow (read zilch chance). Accounts will need to be upgraded for which there will be a modify fee, which is normally £10. However I note that from next month Openreach are running some special offers for bulk modify orders
LinkBulk Modification of FTTC to higher speed Bandwidths 23/05/2016 0.20
If, and I repeat if BTretail/consumer decide to upgrade their existing accounts they will incur the modification fee and have to pay extra to Openreach for monthly port costs. There is no way they can pass all accounts over in one day - usually bulk migrations are completed over a period of several weeks. In the past its not unknown for them to retain accounts on legacy products until the customer asks for the upgrade.
I imagine BTretail could be swamped with requests, but I suppose it depends how well the General Public are aware of what they are doing.
They certainly wont do any higher speed modifications in bulk now, if they know that from May its only going to be 20p per line.
