looking for an alternative to sky vdsl
« on: March 03, 2016, 08:53:59 AM »

Hi.

I have been with Sky for years from adsl to vdsl but lately I am having issues with higer latency times then when I started with them. Latency was around 12-15ms . Generally now its anything from 20-30ms.

I am out of contract so looking to possibly move and try something else.
Would like low latency, one static ip and 80/20 profile.

Some feedback on the main players would be appreciated.

Thanks

Curious as to if you're sure this is a general Sky network issue rather than a FTTC line interleaving increase?

Can you ping some sites and let us see your latency? Possibly even use a network looking glass to see the latency on the return path to you.

I'm with Talktalk Business and found them to be excellent. They offer top class 7 day support, their call centre is Warrington based and many of their staff are ex-Zen broadband. Here's my live BQM with TTB:

I think you were on the right lines and played a part in me not moving.. In the end I did not move and stuck it out. Got a new DP pair and currently using an unlocked eci modem. Ping time now down to 11ms with g.inp activated - I think the new pair helped no end as my stats were better pre g.inp and then improved again with g.inp when it finally happened.
