802.11n typical performance and peak performance
« on: March 10, 2016, 05:12:34 AM »

Could anyone give me an idea of what I should expect from a really good 802.11n WAP in terms of

(1) typical performance between rooms in a fairly RF-friendly house (ie not solid brick or block internal walls), and

(2) peak performance in the same room, or with one plasterboard wall intervening but fairly close,

(3) at 2.4 GHz and (4) 5 GHz?

No external interference from neighbours.

Two images are attached, freshly created at The Cattery.

Details: 802.11n, 5 GHz band, same room. No other 5 GHz band signals are seen.

Here is a snap-shot of the current WiFi environment that I can see --

What are the capabilities of the Access Point and client device?

Is that 243 Mb/s the wireless link rate, MCS 14 (40MHz channel width, 2 streams, 800ns GI)? i.e. 243 Mb/s with one higher rate possible, 270 Mb/s?

I believe so.  ;)

I have see a higher rate before, something like 270 Mbps.

To be honest, I just use it because it works well for me. I suspect that there are other WAPs broadcasting on the 5 GHz band but they don't penetrate into The Cattery. So as I see it, I have the entire 5 GHz band to myself.  :D
