Well it beats my backup time, generally when I do get a power cut its normally back within the hour.

If its a fault affecting the HV network which would be affecting most of the local area then yeah the target time for our DNO is an hour restoration. If its a fuse at the local substation on the LV side then the time is < 3 hours unless its a fault that will not restore them you are looking at a 12 hour time and 18 hours before any OFGEM mandated compensation is payable.

Question is how long does the battery in the cabinet last for....

I can't say for definite but the few times I've dealt with an LV mains fault affecting OR FTTC cabs - I know OR engineers were visiting the cabinet daily to swap out the batteries.

I have a vague memory of reading of about 8 hours.

I'm sure Walter will probably be able to tell us what his Surrey clients have discovered and Black Sheep will be able to give us the "official line" on the subject.

4hrs is the maximum expected time on a RDSLAM ......... of course, the probability is they would last a lot longer but we should have initiated an 'Emergency call out' before the 4hr mark was up.

Thank you. It reads as perfectly sensible that there is a significant "time buffer" to allow for any possible delays.

Have you personally had such a call?  :-\

Not I, Mr Cat ........... 'we' aren't allowed inside the DSLAMS due to the fact mains voltage is present. We may start licking the terminals, you see ...  ;) :)

I had to tack my drop wire to the roof pillars inside a loft cuboard because the engineer wasn't allowed in enclosed spaces.

Heath and safety at its finest.

My office is an enclosed space, it's a wonder the good Openreach man made it in and out alive.

I can offer you a pair of LV gloves rated for up-to 1000V AC or even some EHV switching gloves good for 33kV if you wish although it would depend on the size of your tongue ;)
