New Windows 10 computers
« on: January 28, 2016, 10:22:00 PM »

I see more retailers are now shipping with Windows 10 pre installed now instead of the 8.1/update to W10 route. Is Windows 10 now very stable.
As my Windows Vista desktop computer is now approaching 9 years old I am going to have think about replacing it in the not too far off future, probably with a a laptop as space is now at a premium in our spare bedroom.
Any advice or comments much appreciated. :)

I don't think windows 10 can ever qualify as stable because of the continuous updates model it's using, basically anybody running windows 10 is a permanent beta tester.

The Windows Insiders are the true beta testers as they get the updates before everyone else. I've just built a new PC and that's running Windows 10 just fine, my laptop is on the insider updates and that's had the odd update that's refused to install but the next update has been just fine. I'll be upgrading all our pc's to W10 in the next few months.

if you get the professional version you have more control over when major updates get installed.

Just wondering if W10 still has the same update model where just about every update requires a re-boot of the PC?

insiders = alpha testers :)
win10 non insiders = beta testers :)

rapid release models are never out of beta in my eyes :)

Insiders on the fast ring = alpha testers  :P
Insiders on the slow ring = beta testers  :P

People on the normal updates = people not afraid to try something new  :P (or blissfully unaware)

Can't really comment on every update requiring a restart, as I use my laptop infrequently, and only just built my new PC. Although I think they are trying to get away from that.

The Windows 10 updates I have noticed required a reboot.
There may have been updates which didn't which I didn't notice.

Patch Tuesday has gone.
Updates come out of the blue.
Cumulative Update for Windows 10 Version 1511 for x64-based Systems (KB3124262) yesterday.

Microsoft have been saying for many years that they want to reduce the number of reboots.
I recall Gates allegedly saying that an update needing a reboot was a major bug.

I switched my 64 bit desktop back to normal updates after an insider update broke MediaMonkey, with it skipping every track.
My 32 bit laptop did not have the same problem, and is still on the insider program.
