Zyxel router won't allow admin access after reset
« on: January 24, 2016, 09:26:05 PM »

Hi,
My first post on this site, but I have been following it for a while.
I have a second-hand boxed and very new-looking Zyxel VDSL router, P2812HNU-F1 which I can't access after a hard factory reset and even after trying the 30-30-30 reset shown elsewhere. Doesn't appear to have seen much use.
The only info I have on the Zyxel site is that user/password after a hard reset should be admin/1234.
All the LEDs function as normal, it responds to reset by LEDs changing to red, orange, than back to green. I can connect to computer via Wifi so don't think it is bricked. The DSL light is on when connected to phone line, but internet LED stays red.
It connects to http://192.168.1.1 to show login page, but admin/1234 always show incorrect user name or password.
I contacted Zyxel customer service for help, and the router is only a year out of warranty, registered in 2013.
I don't think it is ISP firmware locked.
Does anyone have any ideas how to fix this?
The box wasn't ISP branded, and I don't think a UK provider used this model.
Thanks

Not sure where you sourced it from, there's a username/password in a Chess Telecom thread -

There's a list of commonly used Zyxel username / passwords here:

Hi, thanks all for the ideas.....I'm finally logged in now!! What a relief after trying various options for the past 3 weeks!

what worked was admin/hji7cli#u6

No idea how that option was found, but it works anyway. I would never have guessed that....which of course is the whole point of passwords. LOL.

Sorry, I added the password above incorrectly in case anyone tried to use it:

User=admin
password=hjVi7cli#u6

Hope that helps somebody with a Zyxel P-2812HNU-F1 who can't login after a hard reset

On a Mac keyboard, # is found by alt +3

It's a very new and useful chestnut for me.......  ::) I haven't seen it posted anywhere else. How long has it been around, and can you explain why the router adds it the admin login page after a hard reset? I thought admin/1234 were the default options.

I was joking, I've never heard of it before. If you found it randomly I'd suggest you immediately start playing the National Lottery and monetise your natural abilities.  :fingers:

You got me! Thought it was well known......anyway, it does the job. Guess it's an unlock from an ISP provider.
